We are the happiest in the world....???

A global survey few years back showed that Young Indians are the happiest in the world and Japanese the most miserable.
This is true,..and why not? We know how to live our lives to the fullest. Work comes as top priority for us, followed by a good career and higher-status. Our priorities are reflected in our values such as endurance and entrepreneurship. We target, work, achieve and enjoy! We are also strikingly more optimistic about our own future and also about the future of society. Also, today's youth has also got freedom of choice unlike the older generation. Most importantly, we follow our heart!
On the other hand, few people argue that expectations are lower in India and therefore, easier to satisfy and whenever the expectations are high, there are suicides. Out of total suicides in India, 37.6% are young Indians.
But inspite of the high suicide rates, our youth is getting lot happier. Someone has rightly said that happiness lies in the mind. Compared to the youth world over, Indian children are brought up to be achievement-oriented. The Indian youth is ambitious and hard working. Better quality of life, greater opportunities, the globalisation effect which has brought in the best of the entire world right into our homes are reasons that have gone a long way in making life a happy experience for scores of young people in India today.
The amount of freedom enjoyed by the youth today is far more than their predecessors and with fewer restrictions the youth have been privileged enough to see their dreams take shape. They have also been able to strive hard to achieve them. Whatever said and done, happiness for the Indian youth has been a mixed bag.

India's 'found' generation-Young generation

The picture that emerges of the people who represent the future of India is of an ambitious, confident, rational and self-responsible generation. No philandering, no fooling around and no drinking. Generation Next believes in serious stuff.
Young people today are in search of that elusive ‘something’, a job or role that can fire their passion. They want to be a part of something larger than themselves. They want to be known not just as consumers, but as contributors to society.
This generation is more capitalist-minded and materialistic. What new generation likes is Money and thats a big change.Liberalization has created a "new social contract" in which making money is respectable. India is becoming a vibrant and successful economy with the generation which spends MORE.
Global opinionated youth seeks more cosmopolitan culture and takes India to a global level.
Most of India is young today and all set to take the nation to new heights never experienced before !!!

But what inspires today's youth..?? What makes them so different from the past generations? Is it the influence of media affecting billions at one go? Or is it more materialistic career interests like fashion, aviation, hospitality, etc? Or is it the growing virtual life through social-networking?
